Roles across communities

Give roles to another community's members.

Partner servers, allied clans and friendly communities often want the same thing: everyone with Staff on one server should be recognised as Guest on the other. CloudMod Connections does exactly that — both owners agree, and nobody has to hand over access to their server or their settings.

Partner roles usually mean handing over the keys

To give another community roles automatically, the usual workaround is to make the other owner an admin of your setup. They then see everything you configured. The alternative is doing it by hand: someone gets a role, someone else has to notice, and nobody takes it back when the partnership ends.

Both owners agree

One side creates a one-time invitation code, the other accepts it. Each side needs Manage Server on its own server, checked live at Discord.

Only the roles you release

The server that receives roles picks which ones may be handed out. Roles with Administrator or management permissions, and @everyone, can never be released.

Automatic and reversible

Roles follow when roles change, when someone joins and in a regular full check. End the connection and CloudMod takes back what it handed out, or keeps it if you say so.

Nothing else is shared

The other side sees your server name and the names of released roles, never your project, network or account. A connection does not share a plan, add-ons or plugins.

Connect two servers

  1. 01

    Create an invitation

In your project open Connections, choose whether your server receives roles or lets its roles count, and send the one-time code to the other owner.

  2. 02

    The other owner accepts

They enter the code, pick their server and accept. Their server takes the opposite side.

  3. 03

    Release the roles

The receiving side chooses which roles may be handed out. Nothing else on that server is touched.

  4. 04

    Build the rules

The other side says: if a member has these roles on my server, give those released roles on yours. Test mode only reports.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Discord bot give roles to members of a different server?

Not by Discord itself — roles are per server. CloudMod Connections adds that for two servers whose owners both agree, without merging their projects.

Do we have to give the other owner admin access?

No. Neither side sees the other's project, settings or account. Each side only sees the other server's name and the names of the released roles.

Which roles can be handed out?

Only roles the receiving server released. @everyone, roles managed by Discord or an integration, and roles with Administrator or management permissions can never be released.

What happens when we end the connection?

Either side can end it at any time. By default CloudMod takes back the roles it handed out from everyone who still has them; you can choose to keep them instead.

Does the connected server get my plan or plugins?

No. A connection only moves the released roles. It does not share a plan, add-ons or plugins, and it does not make a server a sub-server.

Is it only for partner servers?

It works for any two servers of separate CloudMod projects: partner communities, allied clans, a creator and a fan server. Servers of your own network use role sync instead.
