Roles · Reaction & Button Roles

Discord reaction roles — and button roles.

Let members hand themselves the roles they want — pings, games, regions, pronouns — without a moderator in the loop. CloudMod does it both ways: classic reaction roles on any message, including one that already exists, and button-role panels with labelled buttons that are easy to tap on mobile.

Handing out roles by hand doesn’t scale

Every “can I get the EU role?” message is a moderator interruption, and a pinned “ask staff for a role” note is one nobody reads. Self-assign roles fix both: members pick what applies to them, and taking a role off again is just as easy.

React to get a role

Map up to 20 emoji to roles on a panel. Reacting grants the role, removing the reaction takes it away again.

Works on existing messages

/reactionrole attach hangs a panel on any message on your server — even your old rules post. CloudMod adds the reactions and leaves the text as you wrote it.

Button-role panels

Prefer buttons? Post a panel with up to 25 labelled buttons, each mapped to a role, with a private confirmation on every click.

Single or multiple choice

Let members keep several roles, or make a panel single-select so picking one swaps out the others — ideal for pronouns or regions.

Set up reaction roles in three steps

  1. 01

    Enable Reaction Roles

Invite the bot and switch on the Reaction Roles plugin in the Plugin Market.

  2. 02

    Create a panel

Run /reactionrole create in Discord, build it on the dashboard with a live embed preview, or start from a Country, Age or Colour template.

  3. 03

    Map emoji to roles

Add each pairing with /reactionrole add — the panel posts as soon as the first role is on it.

Frequently asked questions

How do reaction roles work?

Members react with an emoji on a panel message and get the mapped role; removing the reaction removes the role.

Can I add reaction roles to a message that already exists?

Yes — /reactionrole attach puts a panel on any message on your server, including one you wrote. Discord doesn’t let bots edit other people’s messages, so CloudMod only adds the reactions there.

Reaction roles or button roles — which should I use?

Starting fresh, use button roles: labelled buttons are easier to tap on mobile. Reaction roles are for the classic look, or for attaching roles to a message you already have.

Can members pick only one role from a panel?

Yes — set the panel to single-select and picking a role swaps out their other roles from that panel.

Can button roles reach my other servers?

Yes. Button-role panels live on your main server, and with “Propagate to sub-servers” on (the default) the role follows your role-sync rules to connected servers.

Is the reaction role bot free?

Yes, CloudMod has a free plan.
