Half of Discord's friction is not knowing whether someone is actually around. You ping them, wait, ping again, wonder if you said something wrong. An AFK command removes the guesswork: people mark themselves away, and everyone else gets told.
Set it and forget it
A member runs /afk with an optional reason — "dinner", "in class", "on a call" — and they're marked away. That's the whole interaction on their side; they don't have to remember to announce anything or check back in.
Anyone who pings gets a heads-up
When someone mentions an AFK member, CloudMod replies with a short note: they're away, their reason, and how long it's been. No more sending three messages into the void — you know immediately to expect a delay, which keeps conversations calm and expectations realistic.
It clears itself
The moment the AFK member sends a message, their status clears automatically. There's no "/back" to remember, no stale "away" hanging over someone who's clearly returned. It's always accurate because it's tied to actually being active.
A note on Alpha
AFK is an Alpha plugin — fully usable, just newer than our stable features, so if anything feels off, that feedback moves it to stable. It's a small, familiar command that does one thing: tell people you're away, then clear when you're back.
Getting started
Enable the AFK plugin and try /afk brb — then send a message from another account that pings you to see the heads-up, and post anything as yourself to watch it clear. That's the whole loop.
